About Your Surgery
What to Expect from Joint Replacement
Hip and knee replacements are among the most successful surgeries performed in the United States — with more than 1.3 million procedures each year.
If arthritis or joint degeneration has made movement painful, joint replacement offers a proven path back to mobility, independence, and a better quality of life.
At the Arizona Joint Specialty Center (AJSC), our surgeons focus exclusively on hip and knee replacement. Using advanced minimally invasive techniques and state-of-the-art technology, we provide a safe, streamlined experience designed for faster recovery and long-term results.
Who May Benefit From Surgery
You may be a candidate for joint replacement if you:
Have daily pain or stiffness caused by arthritis
Struggle with limited mobility that affects normal activities
Have tried conservative treatments without lasting relief
If you’re unsure whether replacement is right for you, your surgeon will review your condition and discuss options during your consultation.
During Surgery: Precision & Safety
Most procedures at AJSC take 30–50 minutes. Our team uses advanced minimally invasive techniques to protect surrounding muscles and tissue, which:
Reduces blood loss and discomfort
Shortens anesthesia time
Speeds recovery
Our surgeons also use best-in-class implants engineered to mimic natural motion, promote bone integration, and last for decades.
After Surgery: Recovery at AJSC
Because AJSC is an outpatient specialty center, recovery begins almost immediately.
Patients typically:
Walk within 1–2 hours of surgery, with help from our nursing team
Discharge the same day once walking, eating, and pain-control goals are met
Outpatient physical therapy begins immediately post-surgery
You’ll go home with clear instructions for incision care, pain management, and swelling reduction. Our team remains in close contact throughout recovery.
Why Outpatient Surgery?
Advances in anesthesia, surgical precision, and minimally invasive techniques have made it possible for hip and knee replacements to be performed safely in Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs).
At AJSC, outpatient surgery offers:
Lower infection risk compared to hospitals
Personalized orthopedic-focused care with one-on-one attention
Same-day recovery at home in a familiar, comfortable environment
Lower overall costs with fewer facility fees
Proven outcomes equal to or better than hospital-based procedures
With faster recovery, reduced risks, and a smoother experience, outpatient surgery is the preferred choice for many patients today.
